Southern Indiana Sketches. For piano solo. Commissioned and premiered by pianist Donald Newsom, the work is dedicated to the memory of Robert Harold Newsom, the pianist’s father, who grew up in southern Indiana. Each movement is a musical sketch of a scene from the region: “Sunrise Over Muscatatuck,” “The Persimmon Festival at Mitchell,” “The Blue Lady of Story Inn,” and “Barn Dance (& Awkward Romance)”
